A bright and dark night was followed by a light show at New Jersey’s Meadowlands fireworks display, which attracted more than 4 million spectators, a record for a New Jersey fireworks show, officials said.
The New York Fire Department said it was working to restore visibility and lighting for the parade of about 2,000 performers.
It said it would also deploy additional resources to provide a safety briefing to the crowds, and to assist the police department in dealing with the crowd.
The city is still reeling from the deadly blizzard of 2017.
More than 20,000 people were killed by the storm.
